Constituents of Estro-Mend™
Isoflavone Complex: Isoflavones are a class of phytoestrogens — plant-derived compounds that are similar in structure and/or function to human estrogens. In plants, isoflavones are usually bound to glycosides. During digestion, colonic bacteria are thought to metabolize the inactive isoflavone glycosides into their active counterparts. Genistein and daidzein, two of the predominant isoflavones that are beneficial to health, are present in significant concentrations in soy, Pueraria lobata (Kudzu) and red clover. These isoflavones promote the 2-hydroxylation pathway, increasing “good estrogens”. Red Clover provides additional isoflavones (such as biochanin A, & formononetin), while Pueraria provides additional isoflavones (such as daidzin, puerarin & 3'-methoxypuerarin) which also contribute to this isoflavone complex. Isoflavones have both weak estrogenic and antiestrogenic activity, which may contribute to their ability to diminish menopausal symptoms and support maintenance of bone mineral density. Isoflavones may also help protect the cardiovascular system, support the immune system, inhibit angiogenesis, and protect against oxidative damage as antioxidants.
Black Cohosh: The active constituents of Black Cohosh include the isoflavone formononetin, as well as triterpenoids, cimicifugoside, and cinnamic acid derivatives (ferulic acid, isoferulic acid, and piscidic and fukiic esters). Black Cohosh appears to regulate estrogen levels, thereby normalizing hormonal balance and moderating the symptoms that accompany fluctuating hormone levels. Black cohosh extracts have exhibited organ specific estrogenic effects and have been characterized as selective estrogen-receptor modulators. Black Cohosh may suppress excessive secretion of luteinizing hormone (LH). Sudden increases in LH secretion, which occur in response to declining estrogen levels, appear largely responsible for many symptoms associated with menopause, such as hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, irritability, heart palpitations, and headaches. As with other estrogenic compounds, the active constituents in Black Cohosh extract may have beneficial effects in the cardiovascular and skeletal systems of postmenopausal women. As such, Black Cohosh offers a safe and natural method of balancing fluctuating hormone levels and easing the resulting symptoms that can occur during menopause.
Bacopa monniera: Bacopa monniera possesses a potent adaptogenic activity helping the body adapt to both acute and chronic stress. It has been used for memory enhancement, insomnia and as a mild sedative. It is also recognized as a potent antioxidant. This antioxidant capacity of Bacopa may explain, at least in part, the reported antistress, immunomodulatory, cognition-facilitating, anti-inflammatory and antiaging effects. Human studies have shown that the actions of Bacopa on cognitive functioning in normal healthy subjects, including significant improvement in speed of visual information processing, learning rate and memory consolidation, have maximal effects evident after 12 weeks. Both acquisition and retention of memory showed improvement with a significant effect on the retention of new information and a decreased rate of forgetting of newly acquired information. Animal studies also suggest it may have a thyroid-stimulating role.
Cranberry fruit: Cranberry juice has long been recognized for its role in supporting urinary tract health. However, when the whole fruit is used the benefits may extend much further than urinary tract health. The fruit also contains proanthocyanins and anthocyanins, two bioflavonoids known for their antioxidant activity. Anthocyanins repair and protect DNA integrity and may be beneficial in reducing age-associated oxidative stress, as well as in improving neuronal and cognitive brain function. Polyphenolic compounds in cranberries have been investigated to determine their role in protection against cardiovascular disease and some cancers. Antioxidant & Antiproliferation activities have also been attributed to cranberry fruit.
Dong Quai root: Don Quai, long regarded as a “female tonic” or “female adaptogen”, has profound benefit in women’s health. Through its phytoestrogenic action it can decrease symptoms in menopause. It can increase vaginal lubrication and may increase sexual activity. It may also increase mucus protection of the digestive system. Normal intestinal mucus is required for proper bowel function and for immune system health. The immunostimulatory, anti-inflammatory and antiallergenic properties of Don Quai may support immune system health. Don Quai may promote reformation of bone and has demonstrated anti-atherosclerotic action. While able to contribute to health and proper function of so many tissues, it has shown very weak estrogen receptor binding and does not produce estrogen-like responses in endometrial thickness.
Hops: (Humulus lupulus) Hops has been used to reduce hot flashes in menopausal women and is considered effective in mood disturbances such as restlessness and anxiety, and sleep disturbances. Some of the compounds that occur in hops have very strong phytoestrogenic activity such as 8-prenylnaringenin, which may have a preventive effect against breast and ovarian cancer. The hop bitter acids may be responsible for the chemopreventive action of hops. A catechin trimer in Humulus lupulus actually exhibits antioxidant activity greater than alpha-tocopherol or ascorbic acid. Despite the anti-cancer properties that have been attributed to hops, its constituents may weakly bind to estrogen receptors alpha (ER alpha) and beta (ER beta) and exhibit mild estrogenic activity and up-regulation of progesterone receptors (PR), which may explain why it effectively relieves menopause symptoms.
Sage: Sage (Salvia officinalis) contains phytoestrogen substances that make it very useful for women. It has been used to treat hot flashes and to decrease perspiration in both daytime and night-time excessive sweating. Sage has a positive effect on the nervous system. Human studies have shown it may be even be beneficial in the management of mild to moderate Alzheimer's disease and can provide memory-improving properties. Sage binds to the GABA/benzodiazepine receptor complex in brain tissue and has demonstrated calming actions, even in agitated patients. Antioxidant glycosides from sage shown free radical scavenging activity, which may contribute to its benefits.
Schisandra: Schisandra may be described as an adaptogen that supports the normal function of the nervous system, while supporting cardiovascular health. It also has anti-oxidant and hepatoprotective properties. Lignans in Schisandra such as schisanhenol may be responsible for its actions. Used for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases, liver diseases, diseases of the CNS related to the old age, Schisandra demonstrated a beneficial effect on memory registration and memory consolidation, and may be useful to prevent age associated degeneration of the brain

Progestogenic herbs are a class of adaptogens that may optimize the healthy proper hormone producing function of the adrenal glands, which are the primary source of postmenopause progesterone, without causing agitation. Herbs which mimic the effects of progesterone by promoting calming, anti-inflammatory and other functions are included to complement the phytoprogesterones and progestogenic herbs.
Rehmannia: Rehmannia (Rehmannia glutinosa) is considered an adaptogen that enhances adrenal function and normalizes blood glucose. It works with the neuroendocrine system, affecting adrenal function in such an extent as to normalize blood sugar imbalances and improve glucose tolerance. It can provide both antiallergy properties and improved immunity. The anti-inflammatory activity in the central nervous system can help maintain proper brain function. Rehmannia has been shown to stimulate the proliferation and activities of osteoblasts, while inhibiting the generation and resorptive activities of osteoclasts. In animal studies is has shown a preventive effect on osteoporotic bone loss induced by an ovariectomy. Other studies have documented cardioprotective and antitumor activity
Bupleurum: Bupleurum (Bupleurum falcatum) is an adrenal adaptogen with significant anti-inflammatory actions. One of its constituents, saikogenin A, is able to stimulate the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal system by promoting the release of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), which is responsible for maintaining the size and function of the adrenal gland. Its anti-inflammatory actions may include an inhibitory activity against allergic asthma
Passion Flower: Passion Flower (Passiflora incarnate) contains a number of constituents, including benzoflavone that exhibit calming, soothing and antispasmodic properties. Studies have demonstrated its effectiveness for restlessness, irritability, anxiety and insomnia, while at the same time exhibiting aphrodisiac and libido-enhancing properties. Its calming ability has also shown antiasthmatic properties. The activity of Passiflora constituents may be linked to an interaction with GABA receptors
Coleus Forskohlii: Coleus (Coleus Forskohlii) contains forskolin, an active constituent that has been shown to stimulate production of progesterone in

Constituents of Testo-Gain
About Phytoandrogens & Androgenic Herbs: Phytoandrogens are a class of phyto-compounds that mimic the effect of human androgens. Properties may include increasing strength, endurance, and stress tolerance, sense of well being, mood, confidence, lean body mass, libido, and sexual response. The ability of phytoandrogens to mimic the anabolic, strengthening, and stimulating effects of testosterone can support healthy brain, nerve, muscle, immune, cardiovascular, and other systems prone to atrophy, senescence or weakness. Androgenic herbs are a class of adaptogens that may optimize healthy hormone producing functions of androgen producing tissues, the adrenal glands and ovaries in women. Herbs that support normal dopamine function and those that support nitric oxide synthase activity can also enhance function of androgen sensitive tissues.
Asparagus racemosus: Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus) is the main Ayurvedic rejuvenating tonic for the female, used for sexual debility, infertility and menopausal symptoms. Its aphrodisiac properties may be due to the ability of 9, 10-dihydrophenanthrene to interact with androgen receptors. The adaptogenic, anti-stress and immuno-stimulating activity of Shatavari has been validated in animal studies, as has the ability to provide antioxidant protection to neuronal tissues.
Eleuthrococcus senticosus: Siberian Ginseng (Eleuthrococcus senticosus) is an adaptogen used to increase endurance and adaptation to stress. It has been shown to improve tissue oxygenation and physical fitness of both men and women. Siberian ginseng has been recognized as a tonic in times of fatigue, debility, declining work capacity, declining concentration and during times of convalescence. Its ability to improve strength and performance may be due to its anabolic effects. The traditional use as an immune tonic has been validated in animal studies demonstrating both increased humoral and cellular immunity. The lignans and iridoid glycosides in Siberian ginseng are mainly responsible for exhibiting the anti-fatigue, anti-stress, immuno-enhancing, cognitive enhancing, and anti-depressive effects.
Epimedium sagittatum: Epimedium (Horny Goat Weed) has traditionally been used for sexual dysfunction, fatigue and libido enhancement. Epimedium has been shown to improve sexual function and quality of life even in patients with chronic disease. This therapeutic effect of overcoming sexual disorders may be due to its ability to prevent and remedy the side effects induced by corticoids, including its ability to protect adrenal gland and bone health during long term exposure to glucocorticoids. Other studies suggest it may prevent menopause related osteoporosis, possible by similar mechanisms.
Lepidium meyenii: Maca (Lepidium meyenii) has demonstrated an ability to improve libido in human studies without affecting testosterone and estradiol levels, possibly by its ability to improve L-arginine-nitric oxide activity. Animal studies have also shown improved sexual performance without a change in hormone levels. The Maca alkaloids & steroids, glucosinolates, isothicyanates and macamides are probably responsible for its aphrodisiac, adaptogen, anabolic and immunostimulant properties, making it and ideal choice for postmenopausal women.
Mucuna pruriens; Mucana (Mucuna pruriens) is recognized as an aphrodisiac in Ayurvedic Medicine, used for both men and women with low libido, and for women undergoing menopause. Mucuna pruriens, also known as velvet bean, has an unusually high content of naturally occurring L-dopa which can cross the blood brain barrier and convert to dopamine. Dopamine can stimulate hypothalamic and pituitary function and regulates motor control, sex drive, immune function, lean muscle gain, bone density, energy levels, and the ability to sleep soundly. The ability of l-dopa to significantly increase sex drive and sexual impulses in humans validates its traditional use as an aphrodisiac.
Tribulus terrestris: Tribulus (Tribulus terrestris) is considered a reproductive tonic indicated in Ayurvedic medicine. Protodioscin is a phytochemical agent found in Tribulus that has been clinically proven to improve sexual desire, possibly due to increased androgen levels. The ability to increase the release of nitric oxide from the endothelium and nitrergic nerve endings may also account for its claims as an aphrodisiac. Tribulus also has diuretic, antispasmodic and antihypertensive properties.
Turnera diffusa: Damiana (Turnera diffusa) is widely used in the traditional medicine as an aphrodisiac with antidepressant qualities. Animal studies confirm that Damiana acts as a sexual stimulant. Its effectiveness may be associated with its vasodilatory abilities. Damiana also has documented diuretic properties and it has been used in weight loss formulations, possibly due to its nervine affect.
Withania sominfera: Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), commonly used herb in Ayurvedic medicine, is best regarded as adaptogen with aphrodisiac properties. A unique feature of Ashwagandha is its ability to stabilize the mood in conditions of both anxiety and depression. Its anxiolytic properties may be due to constituents with GABA-mimicking activity. Animal studies confirm that it provides adaptogenic ability to tolerate stress, as well as protect nerve tissue and improve memory. Through activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis, Ashwagandha extracts can increase gonadotrophic hormones. This trophic affect on the ovaries may contribute to its adaptogenic properties. The ability of Ashwagandha to increase nitric oxide synthase may contribute to the aphrodisiac affect. In addition to being antistress, neuroprotective and aphrodisiac, Ashwagandha also has anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-hyperglycemic and cardioprotective properties

Constituents of Test-Quench™
ABOUT Phytoantiandrogens: Phytoantiandrogens are a class of phyto-compounds that decrease tissue sensitivity to androgens or decrease androgen activity, predominantly through the action of 5-alpha-reductase inhibition, which decreases conversion of testosterone to the more androgenic dihydrotestosterone. Androgen excess symptoms have been observed in Menopause Types® 3, 6, 9 & 12. Androgen excess disorders have also been observed in polycystic ovary disease (PCO) and PCO-like syndrome, which has a milder clinical presentation than PCO. Even though PCO & PCO-like syndrome occur in young women, associated insulin resistance, lipid disorders and cancer risks have also been observed, revealing that these factors are not exclusively age related.
Saw Palmetto: Saw Palmetto (Serenoa repens) is widely used for the antiandrogenic properties attributed to it, which are most likely due to the presence of beta-sitosterol, palmitic-acid and stearic-acid, all of which have 5-alpha-reductase inhibiting activity. The anti-inflammatory properties that have recently been noted in Serenoa Repens may be associated with its beneficial properties.
Fennel: Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) seed is a source of the antiandrogens palmetic acid and beta-sitosterol, active components within many antiandrogenic herbs. The androgen antagonist properties of Foeniculum vulgare have been used for women in topical agents to control hirsutism. In animal studies, fennel extracts have demonstrated antitumor activity in testosterone sensitive tissue.
Nettles: Nettles (Urtica dioica) has the antiandrogen palmetic acid as an active component within the herb. Antihyperglycemic and hypoglycemic effects has also been noted in Urtica dioica. Anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antioxidant properties have also been attributed to Urtica dioica., which may contribute to its beneficial properties.
Holy Basil: Holy Basil (Ocimum sanctum) leaf, with a long history of use in Ayurvedic Medicine, contains antiandrogenic properties that may be attributed to the presence of the 5-alpha-reductase inhibiting constituents; beta-sitosterol, palmitic-acid and stearic-acid. In animal studies the anti-androgenic property of Ocimum sanctum was shown to diminish response in androgen sensitive tissues, an effect that was reversible two weeks after the extract was stopped. Antihyperglycemic and hypoglycemic effects has also been noted in Holy Basil. Animal studies have shown Ocimum sanctum can cause lowering in serum total cholesterol, triglyceride, phospholipid and LDL-cholesterol levels and an increase in the HDL-cholesterol. Sedative properties have been identified in Ocimum sanctum as well as adaptogenic and antistressor properties in regard to adverse stimuli and toxic substances. Ocimum sanctum has also been found to inhibit acute as well as chronic inflammation in animal studies, which may contribute to its antistress, adaptogenic properties.
Fenugreek: Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum) seed has antiandrogenic properties due to the presence of beta-sitosterol, palmitic-acid and stearic-acid. Beneficial anti-hyperglycemic and hypoglycemic properties of Trigonella foenum-graecum have been shown to decrease elevated glucose in a double blind placebo controlled human study. It has been shown to reduce excessive glucose levels and increase the number of insulin receptors in humans, possible by stimulating glucose-dependent insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells. Both human and animal studies have shown fenugreek has the ability to lower total cholesterol, LDL, VLDL cholesterol and triglycerides significantly. Anti-inflammatory properties have also been documented in Trigonella foenum graecum, contributing to its beneficial properties.
Pygeum: Pygeum (Pygeum africanum) bark has the antiandrogen beta-sitosterol. Anti-inflammatory properties have been noted in Pygeum africanum, contributing to the beneficial properties.

A synergistic combination of iodine containing seaweeds, and herbs which contain phytothyroidogenic, phyto-thyroid-receptor agonists, and other herbs designed to promote optimal function of thyroid hormones by maintaining the health of thyroid hormone producing tissues and by supporting the healthy function of tissues that respond to thyroid hormones.
This unique combination of seaweeds and herbs synergistically supports the SEVEN KEY FUNCTIONS associated with OPTIMAL THYROID HEALTH, due to its ability to support:
- increased bio-available iodine for thyrocytes
- increased iodine uptake by thyrocytes through interactions with sodium-iodide-symporter (NIS) proteins
- increased T3 & T4 production and secretion from thyrocytes
- increased conversion of thyroxine (T4) to the more bioactive triiodothyronine (T3) by liver cells;
- increased RXR/TR heterodimerization of thyroid receptors on target cells throughout the body
- increased binding of thyroid hormone receptors to DNA by RXR/TR heterodimers throughout the body
- increased affect of T3 on target gene expression within receptor cells throughout the body.
Constituents of Thyro-Mend™
Sea Kelp (Ascophyllum nodosum) is a dietary source of bio-available iodine. An additional benefit of Ascophyllum nodosum is its ability to increase glutathione peroxidase activity, an important antioxidant. Human thyrocytes synthesize and secrete extracellular glutathione peroxidase, which translocates into the intracellular space and prevents peroxidative damage of thyrocytes from diffusion of extracellular H202 during stimulation of thyroid-hormone synthesis.
Bladderwrack (Fucus vesiculosus), another dietary source of natural bio-available iodine, has been used by many societies throughout history. Bladderwrack has also demonstrated anti-estrogen properties in both human and animal studies, suggesting that it may contribute protective health to estrogen sensitive tissues.
Guggulsterone (Commiphora mukul) has shown an ability to support thyroid function, especially through increased conversion of T4 to T3 in the liver, the principle site of T3 generation.* The effects of guggulsterone may be due to its ability to activate multiple receptors on the nuclear membrane, including thyroid receptors (alpha & beta), retinoic acid receptors, (which pairs with thyroid receptors), and the vitamin D receptor, which also plays a role in thyroid function. Guggulsterone, a component of Commiphora mukul supports healthy cholesterol levels and affects LDL oxidation, an important feature since the oxidation of LDL may have an effect on cardiovascular health, a critical concern for those with sub-optimal thyroid.
Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis) provides carnosic acid, a polyphenolic diterpene that at low concentrations increases the expression of vitamin D and retinoid receptors. Retinoid-X-receptors (RXR) undergo heterodimerization with thyroid hormone receptors (TR). The RXR/TR heterodimers have been proposed to be the principle mediators of target gene regulation by T3 hormone. The ability of carnosic acid to also affect retinoic acid receptors may increase its importance as a TR agonist. Rosemary also contributes rosmarinic acid, which has significant antioxidant and anxiolytic properties. An additional constituent, carnosol, may support healthy metalloproteinase-9 activity and healthy NF-kappaB activity, which may be responsible for its support of normal immune system function.
Sage (Salvia officinalis) has long been recognized as a very rich source of the antioxidant carnosic acid which, as noted above, can increase T3 activity through improved RXR/TR heterodimerization. Important features of Salvia officinalis are also its memory supportive properties, including memory retention, more efficient memory retrieval and improved mood and cognitive task performance.
Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) demonstrated an ability to directly act on the thyroid to raise serum levels of thyroid hormones in animal studies during the late 1990s. Though inconclusive, a case review in late 2005 indicated that Ashwagandha may have the ability to raise serum levels of thyroid hormones in humans. Ashwagandha has also been attributed as having a number of adaptogenic properties including neuroprotective properties.
Coleus (Coleus forskohlii) contains forskolin, a potent activator of the cyclic AMP-generating system in many tissues including the thyroid, and increases T3 & T4 secretion from thyrocytes in a fashion similar to TSH, though independent from TSH. Forskolin is specifically able to mimic the effect of TSH in regard to iodide uptake, organification of iodine, thyroglobulin (TG) production, and promote secretion of T3 & T4, through an increase in the expression of sodium/iodide symporter (NIS) proteins.
Brahmi (Bacopa monniera) exhibited thyroid supportive properties through an increase of T4 serum concentrations in animal studies. Brahmi may have more direct thyroid supportive properties versus an effect on hepatic conversion to T3. Brahmi may also address concerns about neurocognitive function associated with sub-optimal thyroid function. In human studies, Brahmi has been shown to improve many of the higher order cognitive processes, including the ability to significantly improve speed of visual information processing, learning rate, memory consolidation, improve memory retention, enhance retention of new information, and decrease the rate of forgetting of newly acquired information.
Hops (Humulus lupulus) can increase the uptake of iodide into the thyroid gland, a fundamental step in thyroid hormone synthesis, through interactions with sodium-iodide-symporter (NIS) proteins. This observation is quite the opposite of many other plant-derived phenolic secondary metabolites such as isoflavonoids, which can potentially inhibit iodide uptake. Xanthohumol, a chalcone found in Humulus lupulus, plays a critical role in supporting normal blood lipid and glucose metabolism.
